Why to pursue an MBA

An MBA is one of the most sought-after programs across the globe considering the opportunities it opens up for those pursuing it. Applying for the program is not an easy task as it is based on various factors including personal and sometimes even professional aspects of one’s life. So what are the reasons that one should generally have for pursuing an MBA? Here are a few of them.
1. Career Change
This is probably one of the most common reasons for an aspirant to undergo the management training. Many companies today prefer employees who can work in multiple domains and handle a number of roles across different industries. A full-time program gives you an excellent opportunity to experiment with internships and various projects and very importantly network with potential employees. The transition from one career to another is certainly a slower process and without an MBA degree, convincing the employer that the skills and experience can match up to their needs is very tough.
2. Career Acceleration
This is the case where you plan to stay in the same industry. The MBA will help you go up the career ladder at least a couple of positions higher than the current one. However, it all comes at a significant cost. This cost is not just the tuition fees but also the lost income while you pursue the full-time program. Before applying for a management program, one should do a self-analysis and understand whether you can accelerate your career just by taking more initiative or finding a mentor who can actually guide you in your career progression.
3. Employer funded
In this situation, the employer of the candidate sponsors the program. Therefore, the employee is expected to stay within the same company after MBA. Thus the employees are expected to sign an agreement with the employer giving their commitment to stay with them for a specified duration of time in return for the sponsorship. However, today not many employers give the option of pursuing a full-time program to their employees. The option of part-time/executive MBA in which the employee keeps on working while studying is becoming very popular. This is the most risk-free alternative as the candidate already has the job in hand.
It goes without saying that an MBA is an enormous commitment. It is not for everyone, but it may be for you. If you sign up for the right reasons, then you will certainly see an excellent return on your investment
