JEE Main 2015 Cut off- Opening and Closing Rank

This year, over 13 lakh candidates appeared for JEE Main for engineering admissions at different IITs, NITs and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes in the country. Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) conducted JEE Main 2014 Counselling in the month of July and August, 2014 to offer admissions to qualified candidates to 30 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 12 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITS, IIITM & IIITDM) and 16 other Central/State Government Funded Technical Institutes. JEE Main 2014 Counselling was conducted in 4 rounds followed by a spot admission round with a total of around 40,000 engineering seats allotment to students based on their All India Rank.

JEE Main 2014 Counselling: An Analysis

JEE Main Counselling for seats allotment were made under different quota. As much as 50% of admissions in NITs were reserved for Home State (HS) Quota which required candidates to possess state domicile. The remaining 50% were allotted to Other State (OS) Quota candidates.

For students of Union Territories (UT) without NITs (Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Kandvi, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli), the full Home Quota was made available at the nearest NIT. Candidates belonging to these UTs were also eligible for the seats in NITs other than their “Home State” under “Other State” quota.

Highlights:

• Among all IIITs, IIITM and IIITDM, IIIT Allahabad had the highest cutoff rank. It was the most preferred Indian Institute of Information Technology among these 12 engineering institutes.
• After JEE Main 2014 Counselling round 4, the least preferred IIIT among all IIITs, IIITM and IIITDM was IIIT Kalyani, West Bengal.

NIT Trichy was the most sought after institution among the NITs. With a total of around 900 seats in NIT Trichy, candidates with ranks upto 25563 were allotted seats here.

Located in Karnataka, NIT Surathkal is a sought-after NIT among engineering aspirants. With a total of more than 800 seats in NIT Surathkal, candidates with ranks upto 28168 were allotted seats here.

NIT Warangal is also a preferred NIT among engineering aspirants. With a total of more than 800 seats in NIT Warangal, candidates with ranks upto 20735 were allotted seats here

JEE Main 2014 Counselling Round 4 Highlights:

• NIT Trichy was the most preferred NIT by candidates in the fourth round of counselling. It had the highest cutoff rank among all.
• The most preferred branch at NIT Trichy was Electronics & Communication Engineering.
• Followed by NIT Trichy, other preferred NITs by candidates were NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal and NIT Delhi respectively.
• NIT Sikkim had the lowest cutoff rank for home state candidates, whereas NIT Rourkela had the lowest cutoff rank for other state quota.
• NITs located in north-eastern states like NIT Arunachal Pradesh, NIT Agartala, NIT Arunachal Pradesh, NIT Manipur, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Mizoram and NIT Sikkim were least preferred by candidates during the fourth round of JEE Main 2014
• Counselling. While the cutoff rank for NIT Arunachal Pradesh was 384912 (home state), NIT Sikkim allotted seats to candidates with ranks upto 388571. From this, it can be inferred that candidates were reluctant to go to these NITs for studying.
• The largest gap between cutoffs for other state quota and home state quota was at NIT Sikkim which means that it was the least preferred NIT by candidates belonging to other state quota.
• The least gap between cutoffs for other state quota and home state quota was at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad which means that it was preferred by candidates belonging to other state.
